Timing Belt: The One Service Where Waiting Costs You the Engine
A timing belt gives almost no warning before it fails. Why it is replaced on an interval, why the years matter, and why the quote is a kit, not a belt.
Service
Precision timing belt replacement with OEM-spec kits, because a snapped belt can wreck an interference engine.
Timing belt failure is catastrophic on an interference engine, and whether yours is one depends on the exact engine. We replace the full kit (belt, tensioner, idlers, and the water pump where the belt drives it) to factory torque specs, with the correct locking tools for your engine.
The timing belt keeps the crankshaft and camshafts in step. When one snaps on an interference engine, the valves hit the pistons, and the repair can cost more than the car is worth.
Belts are replaced on a time and distance interval set by the manufacturer, whichever comes first, because rubber ages even in a car that is rarely driven. Once the new kit is in, the timing is checked and the car is road-tested before handover.
Quoted on inspectionToo variable to price blind - we diagnose first, then quote in writing.

Questions
A timing belt usually gives no warning before it snaps. The interval exists because the belt ages with time as well as distance. Our article on timing belt replacement explains why waiting costs more.
On many engines the water pump is driven by the timing belt and sits behind the same covers. Replacing it separately later means paying most of the same labour twice.
It depends on the engine. Many European engines use a chain instead, which is covered under engine repairs. Tell us the model and engine when you book and we will confirm.
